Carol Grace Hurst has worked as a social work clinician and social work educator for over twenty years. Her years in clinical practice focused on children, youth, and families from a predominantly family systems’ perspective. She worked in-depth with children and their families who had court involvement due to child abuse, neglect, and/or sexual harm. She also worked with foster parents and children receiving therapeutic foster care services. She believes in the power of attachment, love, and deep spirituality to anchor resilience when families face extreme relationship challenges.
Carol currently serves as Associate Professor and Social Work Program Director at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She holds PhD and MSW degrees in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Carol also provides clinicial supervision to other clinicians. She and her husband, Jon Nafziger, have three sons and reside in Crozet, Virginia. She and her family worship with Charlottesville Friends Meeting of the Baltimore Yearly Meeting Religious Society of Friends.
